TRAIN THEM!!!
YOU HAVE TO KNOW THE PLAN! I was teaching in the service last night and mentioned that Jesus knew how to plan. I think of the time when He finishes ministering to the crowd and sends the disciples ahead in the boat. Jesus goes off to the mountain top to pray (Matthew 14:23) and spend time with God. Apparently it was some time, because the Bible says that “when evening came” Jesus decided to head to the other side. Or the time when the 5000 were fed. I know that many people say that it shows that He didn’t plan… however the way that the disciples distributed the food without a church split (obviously in order) had to take some planning.
That aside, Proverbs 15:19 The way of the sluggard is blocked with thorns, but the path of the upright is a highway. Jesus knew the plan, and He worked it. We have to know what the vision is for our ministries. What are our goals, what are our expectations, and what are our next steps to see the VISION God has given us. Here are a few practical steps.
Practical 1: Know what you want to train them.
Take the time to prep out the direction for your team and make it plain. Habakkuk 2: 2 Then the LORD replied: “Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it. Train them in practical leading skills (personal life, devotions, speaking skills, organizational skills, etc). Write it out!
Train them in ministry skills (Spirit led, people focused, vision development)
Practical 2: Every person on your team should have a personalized training program.
Jeremiah 29:11 says For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. If God has taken the time to know what plans he has for us (personally) then we need to do the same example to our teams. We need to take the time to develop a growth path for every leader we have, and know what they need (through prayer and discernment).
Side Practical 1: Every mission and responsibility and position should have a job description. If we want our leaders to succeed then we have to give them something to succeed at. A purposeful and effective leader will elevate his team through equipping them to excellence in the realization of the expectations. We have to tell them what we want them to do, teach them how to do it, then give them the opportunity to succeed. Teach the process, judge the product, equip them to do it, then let them do it
